Goold Health Systems (GHS) receives CMS Certification on its Pharmacy Benefits Systems for the Wyoming Department of Health’s Medicaid Pharmacy Program

Cheyenne, WY — Goold Health Systems (GHS), a healthcare management company focusing on State Medicaid services, has been engaged by the State of Wyoming’s Department of Health (DOH) to provide a variety of services related to Wyoming’s Medicaid pharmacy benefits programs. A significant responsibility was to ensure that the WY Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) and Pharmacy Point-of-Sale (POS) systems GHS built, then operated, on WY DOH’s behalf would be certified by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). On January 20, 2010, CMS informed the DOH that the pharmacy systems have been certified.

“We are very pleased to be working with Wyoming’s Department of Health, the provider community and Wyoming’s Medicaid members,” said Jim Clair, CEO of GHS. “And we’re particularly pleased with the results of CMS’ certification process. We have worked collaboratively with the State and CMS during this process to ensure that all project requirements were successfully built, tested and deployed.”

GHS’ specific duties will include operating and maintaining a new electronic Pharmacy Point-of-Sale (POS) system for the Wyoming Medicaid Pharmacy program, acting as a Pharmacy Benefits Administrator (PBA), including all fiscal agent duties related to the pharmacy benefit; drug rebate administration, Preferred Drug List assistance; Supplemental Rebate negotiations; implementing and maintaining a SMAC (State Maximum Allowable Cost) Program for multi-source medications; pharmacy provider enrollment; effective file interfaces among the Department and its other Medicaid vendors; and reporting and analyses. The engagement has a 5-year base term that may be extended up to three years, until June 30, 2016. Wyoming’s new pharmacy system became operational on May 28, 2009.

“We are excited to work with GHS and continue to have high expectations for their work with our pharmacy program”, said Roxanne Homar, R.Ph., State Pharmacist, who oversees the Office of Pharmacy Services. Antoinette Brown, R.Ph., Medicaid Pharmacy Program Manager, agreed stating, “We have great confidence in GHS’ abilities to provide outstanding service to our providers, clients and the Department”.

GHS has established a local presence in Cheyenne. “We’re very pleased to be working with the State of Wyoming. The state staff is committed to making sure the pharmacy systems work well for Wyoming’s Medicaid clients and providers. We, in turn, have customized our systems to meet Wyoming’s needs. We hired very talented local pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and operations staff, and opened a Cheyenne office because we believe that is the best way to have an effective, quality partnership with Wyoming’s DOH and provider community,” said Jim Clair.

Affiliated with the Waldron Group of Companies, GHS is a health care management company that specializes in providing pharmacy benefit services, clinical services and business process outsourcing services to State Medicaid agencies, non-profit clients and private sector clients. Celebrating its 35th anniversary, GHS has offices in Augusta, Maine, Cheyenne, Wyoming Des Moines, Iowa, and Atlanta, Georgia and employs more than 190 professionals. It provides various levels of pharmacy and other services to ten State Medicaid Agencies.
